DownloadIntroducing Bodwell High School student volunteers. They’re learning about how to help those in our community facing challenges and to inspire creativity through the arts.
We were invited as a class to be social media volunteers for Art in the Garden 2019. In addition we’re beta testing the North Shore Culture Map
We’re taking the time to think about kids and teens facing serious illnesses in the hospital by creating craft kits and writing cards.
We support artisans and vendors with sustainable businesses. Youth artists are creating site specific project ideas around Lonsdale Quay.
HOW TO MAKE A FABRIC HEART
SUPPLIES
Fabric
Needles
Thread
Sewing Scissors
Piece of cord or ribbon
Chopstick
Stuffing
ª Cut out two squares from your fabric slightly larger than you want your heart to be. From each square cut matching hearts. You can use a stencil or draw lightly on the back side of the fabric if that helps.
Set the ribbon or cord in place so that when you sew the heart shut it will hang from the ribbon.
Place the fabric facing each other with the print side facing inwards (you will be turning it inside out). Use pins as needed to keep the hearts nicely together.
With the cording or ribbon pinned in place, start stitching around the fabric (1-2cm seam allowance) with the machine or by hand; leave a hole large enough to be able to turn the heart right-side out.
Use the not pointy end of the chopstick to gently push the edges out of your heart and make sure it’s sealed tightly.
Stuff your heart. You’ll need to massage the stuffing around to get it in just right. The cord or the ribbon should be in place and you can sew the hole closed by hand.
Your Heart is Done!
